Technical Assistance for the Improvement of Navigation Conditions on the Danube
Two complex projects were organised in order to address the improvement of navigation conditions on Danube. First project was finalised, second is under development. The financing is based on ISPA and the projects are developed based on Consortium cooperation, among business units of Suez. First project addressed the sector beween Calarasi and Braila, about 200 km, second addresses the sector between Portile de Fier and Calarasi, plus deviations, about 450 km. Based on analysis of existing conditions, a hydraulic and morphologic mathematical model was developed, in order to select the optimal solution for solving existing navigation problems. Several technical solutions had been analysed starting with local dredging in critical points, construction of new bottom sills and rehabilitation of the old ones, groynes, completion/carrying out of a guiding dyke, etc. The solutions had to comply also with environmental protection requirements.
